Allied health professionals are sought when a certain condition that has to be given treatment beyond the realm of specialization of yet another doctor. A great example of this is the physical therapy profession. Medical doctors suggest that a patient undergoes physical therapy if, after the surgery or treatment, there still is a need for rehabilitation. This is most common in cases of physical injuries or muscle damages.

They also specialize in a field relative to medicine, except that the treatment courses they know and do are not the same as in the conventional approach.
